Riyo Mori Hands Over Miss Universe Crown

By billywest • Jul 17th, 2008 • Category: General

Miss Universe 2008 has been crowned. To be honest, I don’t really care who Miss Universe is, but it’s newsworthy in Japan that Miss Riyo Mori, Miss Universe 2007, has passed on her crown. And, this time, the winner is not Japanese; She’s Dayana Mendoza of Venezuela.

Even though she won the title, ‘Miss Universe’ last year, many Japanese people complained that Miss Mori didn’t accurately reflect the image of true Japanese beauty. But, she was very popular with many non-Japanese. However, there’s no doubt that Venezuelans will be proud of their country’s representative and will celebrate her victory.

What do you think? Was Riyo Mori a good representative for Japan as Miss Universe? On a more trivial note, who do you think best represents her country’s image of a truly beautiful female, Miss Mori or Miss Mendoza?

Who best represents her country as a truly beautiful female?

  1. I’ve never been to Venezuela so I can’t really say who represents their country better.
But they are both hotties….isn’t that all that matters?
    Who’s hot and who’s not!?!
They both can have my vote that’s for sure.

If the JNs complained about Mori not being a good representative for their country then us Americans should be bitching the same argument too. The next pageant’s Miss America (or USA…whichever it is) should be a bloated obese woman with cellulite on her thighs. But then again, they probably already have a pageant for that though.

  2. billywest : you forgot the “Who cares they are both super-HOT!” option in your poll.
But I must admit that Miss Universe 2007 was Japanese … I had a lot of friends that were “Japanese girls are damn ugly” before that, now they don’t comment on my taste for girls anymore.

  3. Hell no, Riyo isn’t a good representative for Japan. She looks gnarly, like some Hollywood interpretation of Japan. I see hotter girls on the Yamanote every day on the way to work. Don’t you?

    Sorry,
For the Riyo Mori in the pic above, I’d give our first-born baby to Satan if I could I marry her.

However, I do understand your sentiment and a lot of guys, foreigners and Japanese alike, agree with you. Personally, I could sit in an outdoor cafe and watch the kind of girls you’re talking about walk by all day long (and evening, too), but I think too many beautiful, wholesome-looking girls get overlooked here.

As for Riyo Mori, she doesn’t seem to represent the usual image of Japanese beauty, but there’s definitely something about her ;)

  4. Hey there,

Sorry for the needlessly offensive attitude of that post. I was on something of a drunken trolling binge last night.

But look at that figure on Miss Venezuela. Look at it! Daymn…
